About MJ Family Farm

Welcome to MJ Family Farm, where our passion for citrus began in 2017 when we cleared land around our home to plant our very first trees. Nestled in the heart of Glennville, Georgia, our farm spans approximately 10 acres and is home to 1,200 citrus trees, featuring six delightful varieties: Satsuma, Pumelo, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Kishu, and Lemons.

Our journey started on May 18, 2017, when we planted our initial trees. With careful attention to detail, each tree is budded onto cold-hardy rootstock, allowing them to thrive even in lower temperatures. From day one, we’ve focused on nurturing our trees through pruning, training, and care to ensure they produce delicious fruit in 3-5 years. By 2019, we were thrilled to share our first harvest with family and friends.

At MJ Family Farm, we prioritize quality and sustainability. We source our trees from certified nurseries and use sandy loamy soils for optimal growth. Our commitment to caring for our trees includes yearly fertilization—especially focusing on nitrogen—and consistent irrigation from March to September.

The Kishu citrus is a personal favorite of ours. This sweet, seedless variety has a rich history, once reserved for emperors in China and introduced to California in the early 1900s. With a life expectancy of up to 50 years, our Kishu trees are not just a crop; they are part of our family legacy.

Family is at the heart of MJ Family Farm. Michael Larry Thompson and Jeanie Dasher Thompson, both alumni of Pinewood Christian Academy, have been married for 32 years and are deeply rooted in this community. Our children—Maddy, John Michael, Ford, Jayden, and Blaine—are actively involved in the farm, helping with everything from pruning to harvesting. Our grandchildren also share in the joy, riding along in the golf cart and tasting our citrus delights.

Our goals are simple yet profound: to engage our children in agriculture, provide high-quality fruit for everyone to enjoy, expand our reach beyond the local community, and honor God through the gifts He has bestowed upon us. Join us on this fruitful journey, and experience the joy of fresh citrus right from our farm to your table!
